Malllika was a happy-go-lucky and fun loving girl. She was around 16 years old when she met her first boyfriend, Aman. He was two years senior to her and in the same school. They made a great couple and were the talk of the town till about five years after which things began to fall apart for them. Aman went away for further studies and the long distance relationship became difficult to manage. Soon, Mallika and Aman parted ways. This was also the time when Mallika joined her new workplace.
She came in contact with Alok – a senior colleague on whom all the girls in the office had a crush. What began as a casual friendship soon grew into strong feelings for both Mallika and Alok. Mallika shared everything about her life with Alok. She had an ailing father, a mother who was supporting the family, a sister who was working hard at an MNC to support her mother and family and a brother who was in college. She also shared with Alok about Aman and how she was still dealing with her heart-break. Alok became Mallika’s closest friend and very soon the friendship turned into love.
What Mallika did not know was that Alok was a married man. He had charmed his way into her life but now she was at a cross-road. Should she continue with the relationship knowing that she is in love with a married man? Her feelings overpowered her sense of reasoning and she decided to continue her relationship with Alok. Alok on the other hand broke all ties with his wife as he was in love with Mallika too. The office was abuzz with gossip about them. Many of them tagged Mallika as the home-breaker and there were others who blamed Alok for getting into a relationship even after being married. One such concerned lady from office gave a call to Mallika’s mother asking her to stop her daughter from ruining someone’s marriage. Mallika’s Mom knew nothing about her relationship with Alok so she was alarmed and confronted Mallika about it. Not knowing how to respond to this sudden questioning from her mom, she denied having a relationship with Alok at all and said that they were just friends. Mallika’s mom knew something was amiss and felt betrayed by her daughter’s lies. She did not approve of Mallika having a furture with Alok as he was also from a different background.
Mallika was sure that she will go all the way with Alok and eventually marry him. She cared for her mother but not more than her own decision to marry Alok. In a couple of years, Alok’s divorce came through. Now, the path was clear for him to have a future with Mallika. He approached and convinced Mallika’s mother that he was the right choice for her daughter. After a brief period of hesitation, Mallika’s mom and other family members gave their consent for the marriage and soon Mallika and Alok were married.
Mallika had a blissful time in the marriage in the first couple of years. Soon, little and big problems starting appearing in their life and they began to deal with them. Mallika now understands that things are not as easy as they looked before getting married and she has to make many compromises to lead a happily married life. Today, Alok and Mallika are married for about six years and slowly making their way through this long winding road called marriage.
